Hottest 100 Australian Albums Of All Time
« on: June 06, 2011, 06:24:42 PM »

Vote, slags!

http://www.abc.net.au/triplej/hottest100/alltime/11/

This one will probably be a lot better than your average H100 (unless shit like Wolfmother wins  ), and hopefully will be a bit more varied than when people like MMM do it.

What I voted for as my 10 favourite Australian albums fyi:

Andy Clockwise  -  Classic FM
Geoffrey Gurrumul Yunupingu  -  Gurrumul
Josh Pyke  -  Memories & Dust
Living End, The  -  Roll On
Regurgitator  -  Unit
Whitlams, The  -  Eternal Nightcap
Laura Imbruglia  -  The Lighter Side Of...
Crowded House  -  Temple of Low Men
Titanics, The  -  Love Is The Devil
Avalanches, The  -  Since I Left You

So it turns out I'm not quite as patriotic as I thought I was and have had to pick 2 albums from the same artist twice. I maintain this was a better step than picking albums because I liked one of the songs on it or whatever.

Saints, The - (I'm) Stranded
Living End, The - The Living End
Cold Chisel - East
Church, The - Of Skins and Heart
Illy - The Chase
Frenzal Rhomb - A Man's Not a Camel
Gyroscope - Breed Obsession
Bluejuice - Head of the Hawk
Living End, The - State of Emergency
Saints, The - Eternally Yours

 Tu Plang > Unit , surely :)

I'm surprised to be struggling for 10. I rate that Avalanches album.

These below would be in there. I thought I was patriotic too but then I'm starting to think I'd end up with Powderfinger, Spiderbait, Grinspoon and Presets in there if I made it to ten. And I definitely don't feel strongly enough about voting for any of those.

Custard - We Have the Technology
TISM - Machiavelli and the Four Seasons
Trouble in the Kitchen - The Next Turn
Crowded House - Crowded House was a fave as a 12yo.
Def FX - baptism, or Light Speed Collision (lol, but it's true)

Really I was only patriotic for about 7 years of the 90s, I suspect.

I'm impressed. I was starting to think I was the only Chris Bailey fan in the world.

Blind Love was in my shortlist, I was just off the cusp of being old enough to appreciate Ratcat at the time and came to them late. Wonderful all the same.

I still maintain Roll On is a better Living End album than the debut though :-D

Similar for me - which TISM album, which LE album, Divinyls didn't make it, no Oils, no Hunters and Collectors.

Brought back some fucking brilliant memories though, thanks Hank.

If you're doing '80s/90s SG, what about:

Icehouse - Flowers?
Divinyls - Divinyls, whom I'm sure must have appealed to you.
INXS - Kick?
Hunters & Collectors - Collected Works
Hoodoo Gurus - Crank

I'm sure there are others...

I'm finding it hard to think of any Aussie albums I like.

Under The Sun by Paul Kelly.
Murder Ballads (I know all the hardcore Nick Cave fans don't like that one because it had like the only ever hit on it but still) as well as The Boatman's Call.

Oh oh and these are serious favorites of mine:

Left Of The Middle - Natalie Imbruglia (obviously the superior sister, Hank.)
Affirmation - Savage Garden.

Oh no you di-int!

And "Into My Arms" was also a pretty big hit for Cave, and that hasn't really affected peoples connection to The Boatman's Call at all. Maybe people just object to Kylie Minogue being anywhere near a SERIOUS ARTIST such as Nick Cave.

I don't hate on Kylie. I actually find a lot of her songs really catchy.

I think Kylie is indeed a serious artist. Successful too. I couldn't listen to a whole album of her stuff, but the occasion tune is OK.

Edit: Slight mix-up with the 'couldn't' bit

No not you, you have shown precedence in liking ex-Neighbours musicians and actors, but your more elitist Nick Cave fan would have a major issue with the Minogue duet. I know at least 3 Cave fans like this. Sad I know, but what can you do?

For the record, I like quite a few Kylie tracks.
