Live below the poverty line
« on: April 19, 2011, 01:43:57 PM »

Hugh Jackman talks about his latest campaign 'Live Below the Line' with the Global Poverty Project, which is challenging people to live on $1.50 a day for five days. .....

I reckon I could do it as long as I got all the freebies he gets.

You don't qualify, because you have to live in India, Bangladesh or Somalia. When he says global, he mean '3rd world'. He's trying to train 3rd world citizens to live happily on less, 'cause quite frankly if they're thinking they're going to get $1.60 a day, they've got another think coming.

I think we must be on the poverty line because we get a health care card from Centrelink. Because we have a "deny access" record* that only two people can see or work on, they just automatically look after us - I'm not sure we even applied for it.  :?

*Someone from Centrelink rings once a year or so to ask me if we can be taken off the "deny access", because it's a pain in the arse for them. I say, "Oh, well, make yourself comfortable because I have a story to tell you." Inevitably, once I've finished they say "So, you'll be staying on it then?" And I say "Damn right."  8-)

I've lived on that, back when $3 got you a serve of chips large enough to feed 2 people though... We lived in a tent outside Port Augusta, and had a healthy diet of chips, baked beans, and whatever truckies shared with us.. totally normal upbringing I had, yeah?

Probably yes, I don't remember, but the farting probably helped keep us warm.

Exactly. She's a well adjusted, intelligent and loveable person. Everyone ought to grow up in a tent on the side of the road eating scraps from truckers. Hang on, is this conversation going on in two threads?
