http://www.smh.com.au/national/comparing-gillard-to-gaddafi-colourful-says-abbott-20110302-1bduf.html

This topic came up during the Qld floods at at other times. Our Tony doesn't seem to quite get the 'decency' bit of politics at the leadership level. Sure, the backbenchers are always going to be making stupid remarks to the media, but as leader you have to rise above it a bit to at least appear to be ethically and morally decent. Comparing any Australia federal politician to a well known, and brutal middle-eastern dictator is obviously (at a mimum) stupid. It's a play directly to the Liberal faithful, but they're not the people the Libs have to persuade in an election. Will he ever learn? I suspect not.

I am on the record as saying that Tony Abbot is a massive liability as the federal leader. He is an attack dog and is best used in that role if at all. His religious and ethical views run counter to everything that liberal and liberal minded people hold to be true.  He is a ideologically driven conservative zealot, not a Liberal.

Is she right? I think there is some correctness to it, but generalising it to "the youth of today" is unfair to the kids who do the right thing. It's hard to tell, but I wonder if the kids doing the right thing are in fact the majority, but a silent majority.

People have been saying that from time immemorial.

Quote from: Hesiod around 700 BCE
I see no hope for the future of our people if they are dependent on the frivolous youth of today, for certainly all youth are reckless beyond words. When I was a boy, we were taught to be discrete and respectful of elders, but the present youth are exceedingly wise and impatient of restraint.

She has a point, but parents should take responsibility...these children are learning it from somewhere...

I'm not. That wasn't intended in an aggressive manner. I apologize.

I've never heard of Hesiod, but I know Socrates deplored the state of youth in his day.

But as for Hesiod, "When I was a boy, we were taught to be discrete and respectful of elders", I'm thinking he probably meant discreet. But then, I'm a proofreader and he was obviously not.  :-)
