The Shoethrower's Index
Pertinax:
The Economist have devised a rating for unrest in the Middle East. Aptly named The Shoethrower's Index, it depicts the relative level of political unrest in Arab states.
So, with a doff of the cap to "celebrity death bingo", I ask, who's next? Or alternatively, will there be a next one? Are we seeing the genesis of an Arab renaissance? Have they emerged from their brush with an Islamic version of the dark ages or will it be business as usual in 6 months time?
Thaluikhain:
I magine it'll be business as usual...they might kick out the old ruler and replace them with identical ones, but I don't see much happening in the way of actual change. Possibly the US swaps a few allies and enemies.
Lord Biscuit©:
There should be one for Africa. A politically exciting contenent.
Pertinax:
Sadly there is not one for Africa. It'd probably show all African nations with a rating of 100. You might give South Africa a 99. Bit pointless really.
Gin Bunny:
I have a friend in Bahrain, and it's becoming very violent, so notch up my vote for there...protests etc. It's quite frightening.
