Balga Senior High School in Perth have confirmed that they will make the decision on the environment at their next assembly.
The head master, Jonathon Cargill, said “We are very proud to be chosen to do this. Normally we just do a bit of a song or dance with the year 8 students. This time it should be a bit bigger. I was thinking we could fit it between the merit awards and the student improvement suggestions. We are always trying to cut down litter at the school so I think we are in a good position to run the assembly and come up with ideas which will move Australia forward. Of course we may need a committee followed by a focus group to progress the ideas. Our committee can then liaise with the government’s committee.”
Julia Gillard has proudly announced the decision saying that urgent action is necessary. “This is critical to the world’s future and Australia’s future. This is critical if we are going to have sustainability. This is critical if we are all going to live together and not in green houses. I personally prefer blue. This is critical if people don’t realise this is critical. This is critical we act now and not later. We can’t just delegate and get someone else to figure it out. I am passionate about this and we must act now. Oh yeah did I mention this is critical?”
Balga Senior High School have indicated they plan to run the assembly in 2013 just before the next federal election.
Later in the press conference Gillard went on to criticise the opposition for doing nothing and said at least she had a plan, even if it wasn’t well defined, structured or coherent. “The coalition are just doing nothing”.
