I'm sitting on the fence in this one. I think maybe the Greens though it depends on who their preference goes to - if its Libs like last time then i'm not voting for them. I am going to also see if there are any stupid minority parties in my electorate and if there is they can get my vote just for fun. Like the Fishing Party. Or the Sex Party. hehe

IIRC the Greens preference went to Labor last time around.

i know what i meant. like when you chose between the two major parties, if the candidate has alredy been elected for your area, and due to you only having made one preference only doesnt the vote get allocated to someone else?
or is that only when you number the preferences say from 1 to 10?  :|

and eru, someone just told me it went to libs. they could just hate the greens though. haha

When it's preferential voting you have every choice where your preferences go.

okay. but in the state election last time they had two sections. we only had to fill out one. the top bit had Labor and Liberal and you only had to tick one box and ignore the bottom bit. if you didnt want to fill out the top bit then you could number the candidates in any order in the second bit. obviously with the second bit the voting follows your 1, 2, 3 preferences, etc, but with just chosing between labor and liberal in the top section, as i said if the candidate is elected do they just keep acumulating votes or do the pass them onto someone else??

In the Federal election, in the House of Reps you have to mark every box for it to be a formal ballot, so you and only you decide the way your vote gets passed around.

okay. well we have a state election this year too so its a bit confusing how they run them all. I'm undecided with the state one too given Brumby's fuck up with Myki and the health reforms. but the libs would just close all the schools again and add more bloody road tolls...

The hating Labor one.

I don't like the way they handled the GFC. I don't like their economics policies in general, I don't like all their handouts to schools to build multi-million dollar school halls, I don't like their mining tax, I pretty much just don't like them in general.

Yes, but what do you like about the Libs?

Well, the Libs haven't actually done anything in the last 3 years, so they can only promise stuff. Like slashing the effectiveness of unions, but at the same time keeping every aspect of Work Choices dead. Impossible? Yes, but such is a political promise.
