One's religion and one's politics. They don't mix, remember? ;)

So why is a church treated vastly different to a political party?

Oh dear.

How long is a piece of string?

If I did start my Australian union of Anarchist Trade Unionists, people would pay tax on the money to set up a campaign office and all of that bollocks. If I decide my party is to be a (forgotten the word...) non electioneering political pressure group, they would still pay tax on the money to said offices.

If however, I call it Confederation of Anarchists under Christ, put in some phony rituals here and there, I can still do the same political campaigning, the same lobbying etc. and set up my "church" tax free.

Or his representatives on earth. I'm more upset about them getting access to kids in supposedly secular public schools for half an hour a week.

The RE classes that I have sat in on have mostly been teaching about 'loving thy neigbour' and doing good to others. They don't preach about morality issues obviously. I think it fits in well with social development and getting along skills in schools and I don't see how half an hour a week of that could possibly hurt.

The problem is (and those who have read it will know who I'm stealing off) the implication that you can be a Catholic child. Or a protestant child. Or an atheist child. How is a child to know thier opinions on religion? Surely we have to wait until they are old enough to think about what they believe. which is fine if you want your child to grow up to be a Catholic, but there are Catholic schools for that.

I know what's going to be taught is not Catholic dogma or whatever but the state shouldn't condone these distinctions (Catholic child, Prodo child, Hindu child)

But does building churches and stuff count as charitable work?

Yes.  the Vatican really needs to be an enormous building right in the middle of things, and they need all the gold chalices and ermine robes, and to eat off gold plate with ancient silver flatware, in order to properly glorify God.

I mean, God wouldn't even listen to anyone who didn't live like a king, would He?

Tax the crap out of them all, I say!  AND the fucking mining companies and big multinational businesses, hell, everyone should be taxed according to their income.

The problem with the last statement being that they employ people and have the ability to go so overseas where they aren't taxed so much.

You do of course realise that is what happens?  Paying an increasing percentage of your salary as it increases taxes you according to your income.

The smart ones reduce their income through various legitimate methods.

If you are the punting type, some of the electorate markets have gone up. And that is definitely some of the easiest cash one can make. Especially now when there isn't any of the "1.0001" prices you might see about some of your safest seats. prices like Christopher Pyne at 1.50 to win Sturt look juicier than they should.

Nobody has ever had the balls!  Why the fuck do religions get out of paying tax?  Who the fuck do they think they are - God?

At least the Indians have drawn a line in the sand. http://www.sbs.com.au/news/article/1303827/Hindu-gods-can%27t-trade-in-shares:-court

The day before the election and punters are pulling hamstrings racing to put money on the Coalition. With bets left right and centre they have tumbled into 2.70, with Labor at 1.45, the longest price since Juliard became PM.

So given you claim it's the easiest way to mke money where are you laying your bet?

I'm staying out of it. Up until maybe Wednesday I would've been jumping on Labor but this avalanche of money has just made me want to sit out of it. At this point in time I can't confidently call a winner.

It's a weird circumstance, a fair few electorates could be scooped, but if I was forced at gunpoint to have a bet, I would back the Coalition with 6.5 seats start.

^^ well I guess I should've!

The new market up is concerning which party will form Govt. Labor opened up clear outsiders, but the money has not stopped coming for them,  they've come in from 2.25 to 1.80 in HALF A DAY. Rabbit & Co is out to 2 bucks.
