I have outlined a whole range of things that addressed teh very issues which are now arising.  If you can't be bothered to read and get informed then it's your problem and goes part way to explaining how SA, the mendicant state, still retains such an underperforming government.

Heard of the NSW government??

Oooh looky here

http://australianetworknews.com/stories/201005/2905036.htm?desktop

It appears PNG had a tax similar to Crazy Krudd's Resource Super Profit Tax but they removed it in 2003 because they lost so much investment.

Am looking for a more complete cite from a reasnably neutral source.

Here's another interesting bit:

http://www.theaustralian.com.au/politics/we-love-it-says-png-now-theyll-come-to-us/story-e6frgczf-1225867931090

And a good quote:

Quote from: http://www.theaustralian.com.au/politics/we-love-it-says-png-now-theyll-come-to-us/story-e6frgczf-1225867931090
Mr Anderson said the chamber of mines had lobbied the PNG government for five years to remove a super-profits tax there -- a form of resource rental tax that was introduced while Australian economist Ross Garnaut was the first assistant secretary at the PNG Finance Department 35 years ago. The tax was abolished in 2003.

Seems Ross Garnaut has a history of fucking up mining investment...

And well done teh KRuddster for picking up on that...

I have no doubt the mining tax is a disastrous idea. It is very easy to kill investment with these kinds of threats, and in the end, the government get nothing. I'm sure the financial modelling is done by the same people who figured out they'd get a profit from the cross-city tunnel, or the lane cove tunnel, or the airport train, or any other PPP. Idiots.

SG, how can you criticise KRudd's proposed mining tax, while claiming he's all talk and no action?

Killing off the mining industry is a giant leap forwards for the environment, surely, and a step away from our consumerist, product driven lifestyle.

Ah, so you think he's done something there do you?

Of course.  But hey, I happen to like the big toys the miners use, almost as much as I like the big tools they have.

But ask yourself this - without mining there would be no materials for things like solar panels and wind farms so how environmentally sensitive is it to push teh whole world back to burning trees and releasing all that carbon into teh atmosphere?

Nah, cause if we get rid of fossil fuels and refined goods, almost everyone would starve or die to due medical conditions we're currently dealing with for some reason, so there'd be nobody left to hurt the spirit of Gaia or whatever.

Oh...toys and tools, hmmm?
