I'm not talking about censoring, I'm talking about sensationalism.

For example, Qantas, everytime something goes wrong, media report it. Whereas another airline like Virgin Blue will not get the same discrimination. It's a shit example, but you get the idea.

Dunno about that.  In my experience the migrants try for that, but they can't stop their kids from growing up in the general community.

My friend works for a shadow minister but isn't a party member. Caught up with him for a coffee and he says 'The work's good but the only people I'm allowed to talk to are the Young Libs and they're all massive gimps'

Maintain my position. Shouldn't be outright banned. Should be stopped wherever a member of the general public couldn't wear a motorbike helmet for example. Should be made explicitly illegal for a husband or father to force their females to burqa up.

I have had a brilliant idea! The goverment could introduce a 'religious symbolism' tax. Then, like cigarettes, you can slowly tax them out of existence!

Well, that'd be hard. Because if you claim it as a religious symbol, wearers could easily claim it's a cultural, not a religious thing. As SG pointed out, the Koran doesn't explicitly state that the wearing of them is necessary, just that women should dress modestly.

Booky, sometimes I wonder if you have any imagination at all. That is EXACTLY what one would hope to achieve. Cultural symbols are easily banned from events and public places. Along the way, the govt can make some money off it.
