I didn't mean that it was a good idea, I meant that it's not anyone elses place to stop her.

What are you basing this belief that many women model themselves on people like that on? Surely people who are closer the young women have a far greater influence on who a young woman wants to model herself on.

She has no more responsability than anyone else in society.

Thal, I'm a teenager, and what's wrong with short people?

Ok, that part about short and/or teen people was a joke.  I'm not bigoted, I've got nothing against the freakishly short, or the undisciplined brats that are todays teens.  Even though we all know they are more likely to steal than real people.

Of course she has more responsibility...the whole point of being a celebrity is that people care about what you are doing.  You honestly believe that there aren't masses of people that model themselves on celebs?

Well, considering she's underage it's her parents place to stop her.

And now it's clear you know nothing about women wolfie dearest :)

We're constantly comparing and contrasting ourselves to all other woman, and when you're young and still learning about yourself and getting self esteem seeing things like that can be very impressionable.

Yes, but that's the thing. You compare yourself with EVERYBODY. Not just celebrities. Therefore if we are to aply standards to celebrities, we have to apply them to everyone in society.

But it's who we see most often and who gives the greatest impression. Besides, what tween is going to have access to strippers or pole dancers as someone who they are going to model themselves on? They won't, so when celebrities do things like that, it's a putting things into a new light.

As thal said, if you refuse to believe people model themselves on celebrities then you're silly. I reckon you realise you're wrong and don't want to back out :P

Her responsibility to things such as the environment etc is the same. Her responsibility as a role model would be more than some other people's.

Quite possibly but I maintain that the Twilight books have done far more damage to the Tween generation than Miley Cyprus swinging on a pole ever could. I also maintain that the damage done by that is minimal at worst.

I know this isn't her, but what if you wanted to make music for a living, you happened to like pop but didn't want to be a celebrity? Why should you have more responsability than anyone else?

You can eke out a tough living as a busker & stay anonymous if you love music. But if you want to be rich & famous, you will influence people and for every 10 people you inspire, there'll be 1 fuckwit who does something stupid [citation needed]. It's a bit harsh on a kid, but blame her parents/managers for putting her in that situation. Billy Ray must have learnt the downside of being a celebrity but decided to milk his kid for cash anyway.

BTW, Wolfe Tone, did you know your namesakes are coming here on their last tour early next year?

I did not. Not so much into the band as their namesake but I'll give anything a crack.
