Ah well.

There will be more fireworks with Abbott I suspect.

Not the kind of things you'd like to hear probably, but at least he'll have something different to say.

Even if you don't agree with consevratism, you'd have to agree that a conservative voice in politics is as much necessary as a socialist voice. Lets get back to arguing, instead of having love-ins. :D

Abbott is as conservative as they come. But with Kevin Rudd around, that's a good thing. I'm warming to the idea already.

Ah, so you agree do you? I think most sensible people would.

Sure, they'll hate Abbott in the same way they hated Howard, but at least there'll be some differences of opinion and some debate.

It's been missing since Turnbull turned up.

I didn't agree at first, but now that the initial shock is over, I think it's a sensible idea. Malcolm really wasn't doing anything. There was too much hate toward him, and I don't think he's good at making people like him (obviously). That's never been his job, his job has always been to be a smarmy bastard who looks out for himself, yet is reliable and trustworthy. He just hasn't really converted that to a party situation.

Abbott is good in that he has a strong stance on things and wont negotiate. That's what the Liberal party needs at the moment. They've let Rudd prance about and do whatever he wants for far too long.

100% correct.

You need someone who will do something. Even if he just does stuff that everyone pretty much hates, like Latham did, it still has value.

Who can argue that Latham had no part to play in the resurgance of Labor? I'd say that he did, he was the beginning of it, in hindsight.

You would be anti abortion then?

You know enough SG to realise that Abbott's personal opinions on things aren't automatically policy. Abortion laws aren't at risk of changing if he's elected PM (zero likelihood). They should be changed of course. But there's no popular support for such a movement. The fact he doesn't like abortion means nothing.

Yeah, what Fadey said. I'm extremely pro-choice, but right now the abortion debate isn't really at the forefront of his or most other people's minds. When it is, I wont be so accepting of Abbott.

Fadey, I know you are reading impaired so here, again, is what I replied to:

Quote from: Nothing
Abbott is good in that he has a strong stance on things and wont negotiate.

Nothing about policy, all about the simple statement that "Abbott is good".

And if he has "a strong stance" and "won't negotiate" then where does that leave him?

Are you following yet?

SG

I think most women won't be so accepting. But that doesn't even matter. He's there to do a job, not to win the next election. It's the job he does best too, kicking heads. Thats what the Libs need right now.

It leaves him right where he needs to be. At least he won't pretend he's all changed like Latham did. LOL. :)

BTW SG, mentioning the requirement to be anti-abortion in no  way responds to Blondie's comments except in the context that i placed them. Otherwise what you wrote is nonsense. Oh. That's highly likely. Sorry for assuming you had something sensible to say. Clearly you didn't.

You don't think the speeches he's made of the last couple of days have attempted to show he has changed?

No, not at all.

He clearly said that he will keep on doing whatever he does and will leave it up to the people to pass judgement upon him. Not trying to pretend he's a changed man as such. But his behaviour will be more moderate, because his role within the party is now different than before.

I would have thought that would be obvious.
