How is rewarding anyone for good work constructive? It's acknowledging something that's already happened.

This from someone writing a thesis about politicians in power 30 years ago...

I'm not giving people financial rewards and glory for what they've done, merely looking at what they did and why. I'm not pretending that my work is going to inspire anyone to do the same all over again. It's the glory factor I object to.

Methinks you missed my point.

The taking of funds for writing about something 30 years old i.e. that has already happened (just to be obvious).

That will deliver no benefit to society but will deliver benefit to the writer?

The glory of an Honours degree?

Do I need to keep going?

I need my degree to get the job that I want. Would you consider a law degree merely a 'glory' to someone who wants to be a lawyer?

And how am I taking funds, anyway? Yes, I got a scholarship, but that didn't even cover the tuition costs.

He's a black guy who assuages white guilt really really nicely and just positively show how equal everyone is in the USA.

Plus he's so urbane and educated and well dressed in a non pimping kind of way he's practically white so he's acceptable whereas a real nigra like Jesse Jackson would never get voted in coz he might legalise black dicks in white chicks regardless of consent or something.

If he was president of Kenya, where his father came from, he'd be the first white president.

The point being you were happy to criticise "awards" to people for things in the "past" that would not motivate anyone in the future yet your entire life is based around the relatively meaningless study of the past, a language hardly used in Australia and your study, which is some basis for your future, is hardly going to inspire anyone to relive the Dunstan era.

But I guess you're right, your studies are so much more worthy of funding than the recognition that is given to Nobel prize winners...
