I seem to still randomly get one or the other. It's kind of how I imagine someone with dual personalities would feel if they had full awareness of of each personality.

The reason why different users are getting different content is that there are two servers. Essentially chaserforum.net used to point to IP address, and I've changed it to point to another server. However, it takes a while for that update to "propagate" - that is, be copied through to the nameserver database hosted on everyone's ISP. So you might get the new version on your home computer, and the old one on your friend's. But before long, everyone will be on the new server.

In hindsight I should probably have taken the server offline for 3-4 days, but that wouldn't have been as much fun, would it now?

Why not just ask for a post count that increases by your daily pos number times a random integer greater than 15 if it matters that much to you?

This post is so dripping with sarcasm that the internet might break... but... I agree with Jo, we need our post count back and what about the all important 'time spent online'? Hmmm?

Careful Fartis, the wormhole to the parallel universe is activated by a clapper sensor!

I'm off to enter the Miss Parallel Universe Pageant.  *clap clap*

No.

Actually... there are some of you who won't want to hear this, so those people can shut their eyes when I explain.  When the English settled America, the version of English they used was English.  Correct English.  And the Americans stuck to it.

The English (people), however, later started fucking around with English (the language), inserting u's and dipthongs all over the place and generally being a pain.

This is not to say the Americans are right.  They're just less wrong than you may think.

Though Spellcheck is evil, there's no doubt at all about that.  8-)

And, of course, America was settled before the English language was set in stone. Mr Johnson's dictionary was yet to grace us with its monumental presence. So irregularities grew differently in the two countries.

You'd also be surprised at the influence that Spanish spellings have had on Yanklish, via adjacent colonies, but that's another story for another day.

I'd advise anyone who's interested in the history of English to read this book.
Quite an interesting read, actually.

I have read it recently... is interesting and amusing, but smacks of Bryson's usual style, which I don't really like. At least it was written before he became popular and started churning out schtuff...

Hmm... first printed 1990.  Never heard of it.

Bryson is terribly funny in some of his books; not so much in others.
