As a movie in its own right, it was pretty darn good. I suppose in a way I wish I hadn't read the book right before the movie because I knew what was supposed to happen (damn it!).

One complaint - when Harry and Dumbledore look at Slughorn's 'adjusted' memory, we don't hear what Tom Riddle is asking about as it is all muffled.

Then when they get the real memory, they hear about the horcruxes and from that, theorise that Tom had split his soul into the seven horcruxes.

What got me was that in the movie, Dumbledore had already been looking for and destroying the horcruxes... that doesn't make sense.  :?

I hope I'm explaining myself here... did anyone else notice that?

yeah I did GC, he seemed a little too surprised at this, instead of jut confirmation, and getting Harry to do a bit of mental work.

btw, uhm, teenage Tom Riddle is possibly the sexiest cherub-faced boy I've ever seen. He is exquisite

did anyone else really fucking love the Burrow part, for me that was the saddest :/ but that's because I don't like dumbledore, and also, wtf, The Burrow is in a crop circle xD? I sort of half enjoy the fact the location around one part of their set just always seems to change?

In the book, the adjusted memory shows Tom Riddle asking about Horcruxes, and then Slughorn saying "I don't know anything about Horcruxes" etc. So that's how Dumbledore knew to go looking for them, and the reason he got that burnt hand.

I think that's kinda crucial to the movie, because Ms 15, who stopped reading HP at book 4 and therefore doesn't know the book at all, said that that bit didn't make any sense to her.

Anyway, I also found it curious that we never heard anything about the Ministry of Magic's problems, which are very important in the next book especially, and that they didn't do a big funeral scene at the end for Dumbledore (and his wand wasn't buried with him?!).

Oh, and Won-Won's girlfriend is apparently nameless.  :|

Also, Snape came to Harry at Slughorn's party and told him that Dumbledore was leaving, yet there are scenes where Harry goes to Dumbledore's office and looks into the pensieve and Dumbledore is there. I can't remember the timeline of the book, but it seems they've messed it up for the movie.

But yeah, the friend I saw it with said he was pretty confused since he hadn't read the book. Which is fair enough. If you haven't read the books you aren't a true fan anyway. :-P

Yes, that's true too. Snape never came to Slughorn's party I don't think.

There is always much more in the books than the movies. Dad and I were talking about it, and the main problem is that nobody can transfer a character's thoughts or feelings into a movie script.

I understand that they have to chop lots from the book to fit it into a movie. I mean, the movie did seem to go forever. But sometimes they lengthen unimportant bits to show off the special effects.

Yeah, I liked the movie though. They got all of the important bits (but as I haven't read the book in years, I can't be sure). It was never going to be as good as the book, but that was to be expected.

yeah I'm concerned about the lack of ministry - we don't know fudge has resigned or anything, and also, what about Bill and Fluer? the Deathly Hallows symbol they find out about being Grinde-what's-a-who's at their wedding from Luna's dad, and at that wedding we find out that Scrigmore dies. :/ that is a bit of a concern as well.

and Re: Ms 15 being confused, yeah I can understand that, the timeline does seem a we bit weird.
but I thought Snape was at he party because in the book he does throw Malfoy out, and Potter listens in on a conversation like in the movie?
Also, Tonks was lame, and that makes me really sad :(
and my friend who screamed >so loud< T_____T when the hand grabbed Harry was like "WHERE THE FUCK IS DRACO'S UNIFORM?" for half of it xD

another think me and the squealing friend thought might be weird was... when Harry hides the potions book, he's meant to know where to find it again because it's past the bust of some old witch wearing a weird crown, which is the  diadem of ravenclaw... so how's he gonna know it's there?

and the lack of burial I thought was strange as well, I think that could have had a good opportunity, to quick give a mention of what's happened in the ministry, like Fudge talking to Harry and introducing Scrigmore, and maybe giving a five minute walk, that's like the one they have at the start of the book at The Burrow? I dunno. But he is meant to be buried with it, because they break into the tomb to take it... although there's an obvious set up for the wand being important with Harry in Dumbledore's office at the end.

and uhhhm Felix potion Harry = theeee besttttt

That's right, that's what else pissed me off - he didn't hide the potions book near the tiara... that's important. And yes, no wedding. That's when the place was set on fire, wasn't it?
