wtf is the go with this shit? i hadn't watched this week's ep after the dismal offering that was thrown our way last week (seriously chaser boys, give up the dream) so the first i knew of this dead kid skit was from all the furore in the media.
after listening to all that, i figured it was something pretty nasty so i just tracked down the clip.
i didn't find it offensive and i didn't find it funny. but it was an amusing example of how popularity can be one's downfall.
as the chasers began to dilute their original satire with more palatable "candid camera" type pranks, they obviously attracted a whole bunch of mainstream nongs (as evidenced by the population change in this very forum) who just don't quite grasp the concept of satire and/or irony. this bunch of morons then obviously expected more cute little "comedy company" sketches - which they inevitably got as the chasers started scraping the barrel (a move which i'd argue pushed away a lot of earlier viewers who tired of the superficial, plastic pranks).
now, when they try to dip their toes back into the waters of irreverency, the bland brigade - who are tuning in to get their little fix of cheap plastic giggles - throw tanties.
so it's hard to know where to sit on this one. the bland brigade fucking suck for imposing their bland value systems upon everyone, but at the same time, it's hard to defend the chasers because the skit wasn't amusing enough to be worthy of defence (and they probably pinched the idea from this one anyway:

either way, pulling a show off screen for that is pretty fucked up. just let the ratings dictate the outcome ffs.
