Was the typewriter guy the point of the sketch? Maybe - could well be that the boys were trying to say that the people who write to the ABC to complain (and you have to write if you want your complaint to be responded to by the way) are nitpickers.

I'm still inclined to think that typewriter guy is set up as a pre-emptive defense to whichever sketch they think is going to get the greatest reaction this week. (He was after the Jesus sketch last week if I remember right). If this is the case, they didn't quite drill it. (And there was a Fritzl gag last week too, suggesting they just generally think it's funny)

You kinda got the point of what I said. More that it was probably saying that we should be looking at the proper issues behind things and be outraged by them (in a positive way) than nitpicking.

Maybe, if my prediction comes true, they will continue with this ridiculousness all season, and then, in the one in episode 10, they could reveal something like that, tying them all together and giving the sketch idea a bit more credibility.
