Music to die for
« on: April 18, 2009, 05:01:41 PM »

http://www.abc.net.au/news/stories/2009/04/17/2545413.htm

Top funeral songs include:
'My Way' - Frank Sinatra
'Highway to Hell' -AC/DC
'Another One Bites the Dust' - Queen
'Hallelujah' - Leonard Cohen

And, quite bizarrely, "theme tunes from popular programs like Top Gear and The Benny Hill Show." Okkkkk.....

plus the usual classical shit.

I'm surprised 'Always Look on the Bright Side of Life' didn't get a mention, I know that's pretty popular.

So, what's your funeral playlist?

This week, mine includes:
- 'Into My Arms' - Nick Cave
- 'Miserere' - The Cat Empire
- 'The Sound of Silence' - Simon & Garfunkel
- 'I Will Follow You Into the Dark' - Death Cab for Cutie
- 'In a Graveyard' - Rufus Wainwright
- 'The Galaxy Song' - Monty Python

And therein lies my philosophy of life & death. Clearly anyone who bothers to attend will be listening to a shitload of music, but I'd rather that than prayers.

Any further requirements may be met by the Meditation from Thais; the second movement of Graeme Koehne's oboe concerto (Inflight Entertainment) and Nella Fantasia (from 'The Mission', sung by Hobbo).

I would also like the Dead Parrot sketch to be reproduced in any booklet which is distributed - even after death, I have to uphold my reputation as a thesaurus.

That is all. I am not intending to die soon, by the way, but I like to be prepared :-)

I was thinking about this the other day actually. I am yet to form a playlist for this particular occasion :-P

Hmm...not sure what I'd want to be played at mine. I suppose all the typical religious stuff will be played, although I will have to keep an eye out that certain favourites don't make it (at the moment, the only one I can think of is "the lord is my shepard" die!)

I used to want Linger by The Cranberries. But I also wanted that for my wedding...

Also Asleep by The Smiths.

Or maybe I'll Stand By You by The Pretenders.

But then they are all horribly depressing songs.

But I'm dead...

My grandmother wants Danny Boy. Along with every fricking member of her family. Bloody Irish

If someone insists that I have anything religious, it will be "Every Sperm is Sacred" :-)

I did this a while ago, but my tastes have completely changed, like my number one top priority for my funeral is
Accidentally Kelly Street!

And everyone will dance like they do in that clip too!

So no-one's up for the Benny Hill theme tune? C'mon, what's wrong with you all?!

I thought seriously about this a fair few years ago, and wrote a list. But I can't find it.

I think it had "Lay Me Down Tonight" by Morten Harket, "The Show Must Go On" by Queen, and "The Galaxy Song" by Monty Python on it... but the reality is that the funeral is not for me, it's for the people who are saying goodbye so it's up to them to choose.

But they must have Morten Harket playing at my funeral... must. His voice is angel, lust, evil and heaven, all rolled into one. *le sigh*

I'd never thought about Another One Bites the Dust as a funeral song. That would be hilarious.

Personally, I'd want Love Reign O'er Me by The Who.

I wanted a funny song too, but then I realised that funerals aren't really about what you want - it's your family and friends who choose how they want to remember you. Therefore whilst they're mourning, "Haha you're dead" wouldn't be as funny to them as you'd like it to be :-P

Seriously though, I want Good Riddance (Time of your life) by Green Day played. It's a "Fuck you" song, but you can interepret songs however you'd like to, and I think it would be fitting.
