The pen is mighter if it's red

It turns out that if you really want to hurt someone's feelings, use a red pen!

It's a travesty that the little kiddies are being psychologically beaten to death by ruthless and mean spirited teachers who mark the school work with a red pen. In my day, I had to get up in the morning at ten o'clock at night half an hour before I went to bed, drink a cup of sulphuric acid, work twenty-nine hours a day down mill, and pay mill owner for permission to come to work, and when we got home, our Dad and our mother would kill us and dance about on our graves singing Hallelujah. But at least they never used a red pen to torture us!

All my favourite teachers used green pen or lead pencil. No wonder I like/d them.

"Given your 10-year-old Labor government presides over the lowest numeracy and literacy standards of any state in Australia, don't you think it's time we focused on classroom outcomes rather than these kooky, loony, loopy, lefty policies?" Mr McArdle asked.

Is it still 'aggressive' if the comments are positive? (Wasn't Yak complaining about how the comments always have to be positive?)

Let's see...

Plagiarism? How did you expect to get away with that you snivelling little brat. This is even worse than that abomination you handed in last week. If only your parents had aborted you, would've saved us all a lot of bother. Honestly, the things teachers have to put up with these days... if only I was allowed to belt the snot out of you occasionally, might make some of it seem worth it. YOU'VE FAILED AGAIN YOU LITTLE SHIT!

'Opposition health spokesman Mark McArdle said the pen advice showed priorities were wrong when literacy and numeracy levels were so low.

"This is a kooky, loony, loopy, Left policy from a Labor Government that is out of touch," he said.'

'Queensland Teachers Union president Steve Ryan hung up on The Courier-Mail after claiming the kit did not exist and the Government would never give that advice to teachers.

"Mental health is a serious issue," Mr Ryan said.

"It is disgraceful the Liberal National Party would make fun of mental health."

Mental illness group Mind Frame said about 14 per cent of children between four and 17 suffered from mental problems. '

right...  marking in blue or black is stupid,.. most people write in blue or black, its red because red pens are easy to get and you can actually see what's been added....
lets make people happier by improving their chances of just not noticing they failed.

I don't see why Labor should have any problem with the colour red... :-)

I certainly have no problem with the colour red.

My red pen is the tool of my profession and the light of my life.

It just wouldn't be the same if it was green or purple.  8-)

This is another example of the media blowing a story out of context. The report only ever recommended that red pen not be used in situations where the student is mentally unstable and "seeing red" may provoke an aggressive reaction whether it is self harm or towards others.

In all the news reports in Queensland the truth was only reported once.

I think the media picked it up so voraciously because journos really hate people like me, who wield red pens.  8-)
