Dear everyone,

I'm currently refreshing The Chaser website. As part of the change, we've decided to shift the forum onto its own site at chaserforum.net rather than incorporating it into the new version of the main Chaser site. Article comments will still be available, but won't be part of the forum.

One of the main incentives to do this is technical - it's a huge hassle to make SMF and Joomla (the software our main website runs on) work together, and I'm not entirely sure I see the point of converting everything when most people prefer using it without the main Chaser site around it anyway.

Hosting the forum under its own domain will enable everyone to use it at full speed, without the rest of the site around it. This will make both the Chaser and Chaserforum sites (which will be hosted on the same server) run more quickly. And it will also allow us to be a bit more hands off in terms of letting its users take control of it - it will be made clear that the forum is not actively moderated by The Chaser.

The selfcontained forum will have unobtrusive ads to help defer what are substantial hosting costs. Currently, these ads can be bypassed by logging directly into the forum, and this isn't really fair to us, since the forum is a pretty major drain on our server resources.

I will also include a chatroom, by popular demand.

As part of this process, we want to appoint some more moderators. If there's anyone you think would be a good moderator, please PM Erubadhriel and she'll relay a list of suggestions to me.
