No, no, there's no bias....
« on: October 30, 2008, 01:46:54 PM »

We're getting close to the end.

All the media love Obama, the nice clean educated black dude.

They can't stand old man McCain and that moose hunting pit bull Palin.

But hey, they report fairly and evenly right?  Just like journalists always do, it's their creed isn't it?

I'm interested in how people see each article:

http://www.latimes.com/news/nationworld/nation/la-na-effigy1-2008oct01,0,7475868.story

Apparently it's OK to hang an effigy of a white women if there is some reasonable intent (and apparently "political satire" meets this test) whereas to hang an effigy of a black man "regardless of intent" is reprehensible.

Wife beaters rejoice - head to the USA!

Ad of course, the overwhelming concern for public interest wouldn't lead to a cover up by journalists and papers for their golden haired all star African American now would it?

I guess a story about tarting up Sarah Palin's wardrobe is much more important to the choice of President than seeing what Mr Obama had to say to a room full of people, some of whom apparently have strong opinions on those nice sweet lads from the PLO.

Disgusting.

Well, hanging an effigy of a black man (especially one that had been targeted for assassination due to his race) is going to seem more offensive than hanging an effigy of a white woman for Halloween.  Now, if Obama effigy lot had waited till Halloween and chosen a less controversial method of execution, such as guillotining him...that'd be fair enough.

I liked the interview with the woman that said she'd torch the house if it was of Obama...the interviewer pointed out that it was a double standard and she enthusiastically agreed.

Actually, I have see signs of Crazy Palin making a come-back. Some commentators are starting to question whether she is really as bad as some media have made her out to be. After all, she's a self-made woman, governor of a state, almost Thatcheresc in strength of character, and she's so far survived the leap to national prominence and scrutiny. Still a redneck though.

I think if McCain & Palin made it to the White House, the world would be a far more 'interesting' place. Not only that, the shows like Jon Stewarts 'Daily Show', David Letterman, Jay Leno etc would be able to carry on their dialog uninterrupted. If Obama/Biden get in, what will happen to political comedy? I suspect The Governator will get a lot more attention.

Yeah, I was going to point out that they aren't exactly equivalent... although having a noose around the Palin dolly's neck is a bit off, the fact that it was part of a Halloween display with other stuff means it doesn't quite compare to just hanging the Obama dolly from a tree... that they're not sharing any other context for the Obama incident doesn't help matters.

Yeah, that's one place where there's clear bias, in the comedy... Daily Show and Colbert rarely have any material on Obama. Chris and Craig have been struggling somewhat with 'I like pie' being about the only thing they've got on him...

While comedy does tend to be a bit left leaning, the problem for them in the US is that Obama/Biden have provided very little material for them to work with. They're running a very focussed and tightly controlled campaign.

Just looking at McCain/Palin is enough to make you laugh. You don't get the impression that McCain has a lot of control over his campaign right now. It's like Palin recognises shes gonna lose, so she's out there fighting for herself - bugger McCain.

You ever heard Obama speak off the cuff? It's quite embarrassing.

I would post you a link but you tube was blocked for us after the wheelie bin incident a year or two ago.

I reckon they might be able to give it a crack
