Problem with Internet Explorer on chaser web site
« on: September 19, 2008, 07:29:00 PM »

When I go in to the DIY discussion forums (Have not tried any other) on two different machines using Internet Exploder this site seems to max out the processor.  The processor on my computer goes to 100%.

I end up having to kill IE and use Firefox.

Has anything changed?  Does anyone using IE have the same problem?  It usually happens after accessing a few documents in the DIY section of this forum.

Yeah, it seems to happen with me too :| Especially when I go to 'Show unread posts since last visit'

I really need to get around to downloading FireFox.

I use Firefox and I haven't had a tech issue on here in ages.

The last few times that I've tried using IE on any site it's been cumbersome to say the least  :|

I use both Firefox and IE depending on what computer I'm using at the time, and for me there isn't really a difference. If anything, Firefox is a tad slower, but that's probably because I am using a laptop that generally goes slow...

Problem with Internet Explorer on chaser web site: SOLUTIONS
« Reply #9 on: October 20, 2008, 08:12:37 PM »

A few more people have brought up the IE/forum issue. After a bit of a brainstorm and some test runs, we think we know what's going on.

Some people view the forum "wrapped", as part of the Chaser website. This appears to be causing the problem when using IE. What you need to do is view the forum as a stand-alone, not through the Chaser website. The URL for this is http://www.chaser.com.au/s/index.php The forum fills the whole page instead of being skinny and centred in the middle. It also means you don't get any annoying pop-up ads, etc. A lot of us use it anyway, it's much better once you get used to things being more spread out. Please give it a whirl, and I suspect it will stop the problems.

The other option, as other people have suggested, is to use Firefox or Safari, and I'd still say do that if you can; you'll soon realise how much IE sucks. If you can't use it (because you're on a work computer, etc), go for the "unwrapped" option. Even better, do both!

Please report back once you've tried this to let us know if it does in fact solve the problem.  :-)

There is nothing typical about you SG.  You are an unusually fractured and effeminate man.  In the words of Dr Biccie, 'Hope that helps.'   :-)

Thanks so much for the recommendation Adi! I think that's resolved the problem for me, at the moment at least anyway.
