Maybe she was just pleading ignorance to protect her real sexual preferences.

From my understanding, homosexuality in no more prevalent today then in ancient times, it's just that it is more overt today.

Well, more overt than in Victorian times, but in ancient times there wasn't a problem in many cultures.

Though "homosexuality" as a term has only existed for a hundred years or so.  Labelling people that way is a recent thing.
