Marine sacked for YouTube puppy horror

A US Marine has been kicked out of the corps and another has been punished after a video surfaced of Marines throwing a puppy off a cliff in Iraq.

The video, which was posted on YouTube, showed two Marines joking and holding up a puppy before it was hurled into a gully.

Marine Corps Base Hawaii said today that Lance Corporal David Motari received unspecified "non-judicial punishment" and "is being processed for separation" from the Marine Corps, the Associated Press reported.

The second Marine, Sergeant Crismarvin Banez Encarnacion received unspecified "non-judicial" punishment.

Though one really has to wonder WHY they'd do it? Surely they'd realise that if they were, you know, going to put it on youtube, people might see it? Might be pissed off? Migh fire them??

Can I play devil's advocate and ask why we'd care if a Marine tossed a dog off a cliff?

Is it because we're appalled that he'd kill a defenseless creature? Isn't that what he was sent there to do?

Shock, horror!, A US Marine on active service in Iraq actually killed an innocent creature. What about all the innocent and defenseless people the Marines have killed?

Where's the hue and cry over the deaths of human beings?  Kill a dog and you're a psycho, drop a bomb on a civilian population and you've made a regrettable miscalculation that resulted in collateral damage.

I say any loss of innocent life is a tragedy. But get a grip people it's only a dog.

I think the problem is that the soldiers throwing the puppy over the cliff is in a way indicative of the personality of the American soldiers, if they treat animals with contempt, than what would they do to human beings? Also, their sheer stupidity in putting the footage on Youtube is extremely worrying. These are the people who are holding massive guns and using army tanks.

Well, yes, but I meant if the marines were using it, wouldn't it be likely to be a US marine tank, not a US army one?  In the same way you get navy helicopters...the deisng isn't exclusively used by them, but the navy happens to own those particular ones.
