there was some story last year sometime about a kid who brought her teacher baked goods that were laced with something. can't be bothered finding it

i've had a year one girl punch me once (aspergers chick - but had other issues going on too) because i stood in front of the classroom door so she couldn't run out of the room and out of the school as she'd done a few times before. she also threw a chair at a kid, and regularly up-ended the classroom.
another teacher on my grade had a year one girl who BIT her...after pulling everything off the shelves and throwing them about the place, and started trying to jump off balconies. she also hit a teacher on the bum. she was suspended about 5-6 times by the time she was in year 3 - last i saw of her she was on today tonight wearing an "angel" shirt with her mother whinging about how hard done by the kid had been.
admittedly, i agreed a little bit, but not much. after she started trying to jump off balconies, she was transferred to my classroom because it was downstairs. so i had her for a term or so. obviously this kid had MASSIVE shit going on elsewhere in her life, so instead of being a typical teacher i tried a different approach, with lots of hugs (COMPLETELY not allowed, but this kid REALLY needed it), lots of chats with just me and her sitting on the steps outside the room at lunch etc and when putting boundaries in place, i would hold her hand and speak gently and explain why etc, instead of "imposing from above". she responded SO well - instead of trashing the room, biting people or screaming, she'd just start sobbing and give me a hug. then we'd talk about how to deal with feeling sad and i'd sit with her and work through what she was feeling/thinking.
all i can say is that i was lucky to have had a 'good' class that year. in a regular class i would not have had the time to do that with a single student. which is why i reckon so many kids in similar situations bounce off the walls.
anyway, i've also had a year 6 boy (islander - taller than me) attempt to throw a chair at me when i was a casual teacher. i don't think he expected me to look at him, yawn, and get back to the lesson though (though inside my heart was pounding).
oh. and i taught a special ed class once (mainly behaviour problems). a bunch of them tried to belt into one boy, so i stood in front of him and they kicked into me instead. that was fun! charged by tards! hrar!
ohh. and the first school i taught at - the year before i taught there they had a siege. some parent came in and took a class hostage. that'd really suck
