If you spent $80K on a car when you're on a $150K salary, you've got rocks in your head.

Why?

Lease rate on a fully serviced (lower end admittedly) Merc is 4.9 percent.  That's about 4K of interest.  Add in depreciation of 12K per annum and your new Merc costs you 16K for a year, or 10 percent of salary (if done pre tax salary sacrifice).

Compare that to your 40K Commodore at 10 percent and you're paying 3K interest and depreciating at at approx 25 per cent per annum which menas it's costing you 13K each year.

Go figure, mass produced bogan mobiles depreciate faster (not a major issue if you want to keep it for 20 years or something) and cost the same to finance because the risk of default  is so much greater and the residual value is so much less.

Because there are far better things to spend 10% of your salary on than a car, like say a yacht, holidays, investments etc etc.

Yeah that's it...i.e. I'm usually only eaten by extremely drunken people at 3am and I tend to give them the shits the next day :P

No arguments from me.

Do you realise how much the average person spends on their car?

Say you spend $5K p.a. on your car, if you're on $50K then you're at 10%

I never spend excessive money on cars.  I won the Ferrari, we inherited the Apollo, and I bought the Nimbus outright for $10 grand about 10 years ago.  Oh, and I spent another $10 grand in total on Mr Mez's HR Holden.

All I require from a runabout car (NOT the Ferrari) is that it starts and stops when I want it to.  Apart from that, I don't give a shit what it looks like, and I keep it extra-dirty as an anti-theft device.  8-)

Going back to the Budget discussion have you all figured out how Kdev gave you those nice tasty tax cuts to keep up with the Libs and now wants to tax you into oblivion?

Well done Leftie fuckers, useless jerks that you are.

SG

If this doesn't excite some of our old political passions I'll just have to go harder!

It doesn't matter much who's in government, SG.  They are all subject to the same pressures and corruptions; they are mostly just men in suits.  We are doomed always to live in a kakistocracy, because the people who seek power are the ones who ought not have it.  :|

thats not true

labor gave us medicare. labor gave us the dole and the pension. labor gave us free university education. (and also took it away)

the liberals never do anything, they just let business carry on unobstructed.

only in the case of the labor party

you always know what you're getting with the liberals.

Which is exactly what government should do.

Stop distorting the market, let people choose the goods and services they want and let business do what needs doing to service those needs.

Yes have a safety net for people like garage girl, beyond that just stay the fuck away from the economy.
