Hmm. That's like saying John Howard's older than Kevin Rudd therefore he's better than him. I don't think it's the date joined that makes people "better" than others. I'm not exactly comfortable with this type of ranking.

No it's not. It's saying you've been here longer. Same as a higher post count is not saying anyone is better or worse, just that they have more posts. How long someone has been here is simply that, but personally I am more interested in how long than how many posts. Currently the date joined can be accessed through the profile info, but maybe it should be the other way around. I don't envisage post counts being totally abolished (otherwise, someone who joined donkeys years ago but hardly ever posts would appear to be a "regular") - you need both to really judge someones level of activity. Neither will actually tell you the likely quality of a persons posts, but fortunately for me I can usually work this out by reading a few examples.

I said yes because I personally have been distracted by the post count out of boredom. When I'm close to a certain number, I'll post in the SUOPC thread with a fair bit of nothing (like movie quotes, or tv show quotes). I did it for a laugh and/or to keep myself amused.

This idea has now been taken to the extreme as people focus on post counts like it's the be-all and end-all of this forum, like it's a badge of honour. We've gone from posting about politics, religion, education etc. and are talking about nothing of real importance.

And I'm sick of being warned when I step over some imaginary line. Jesus, when I first got here I copped huge amounts of crap. Now it's all watered down namby-pamby shit.

Don't get me wrong. A bit of inanity and stupidity goes down well at times. It's just that when this is all there is... well, it's boring. It has become a place where I procrastinate instead of a place where we yell and abuse and go OTT about an issue, discussing it with people from both sides of the fence.

Maybe that's part of the problem too. We don't have any of the angsty characters of old, pushing the envelope.  :|

Oh I don't know. I think I've just added to the inanity with this ranting post about nothing which basically solved nothing and said nothing. Call me Seinfeld.

What I wan to know is why get rid of it?

Like f you don't care about it then why does it bother you?

And I will still post shit, and still want to get to 10000 and still have the highest post count.

This is such a gay idea.

Why does there need to be like how long you have been here either, I think it's just crap having like oh I'm better then you cause I have been here longer.

Just as I don't think that post count makes you any better I JUST FUCKING WANT TO DO IT! :x

How are we going to define spammers? A certain number of posts? What about people who post a large number of legitimate posts? How do we determine what's legitimate and what's not? There are obvious spammers and not so obvious ones. 90% of us are guilty of spamming at one time or another. Where do we draw the line? It's murky territory.

but there are some obvious spammers who seem to spend 90 percent of their time on this forum in the SUOPC posting shit. I'm talking about banning the obvious spammers- not the people who go in their occasionally and post one or two random things

I'm not just being a bitch here. But seriously, you need to get some kind of therapy.

And the rest of you shouldn't be enabling her.

Well then I think you are a spammer then.

Who decides this, it's shit!

I don't want to retype it, so I will quote myself here, even though the context is slightly different:

I kind of agree with you there... not that I know what the days of old were like, but when I joined, things were shit (apparantly) and now they're even more shit that what was considered shit before.

Edit:

We're arguing about POST COUNT now, for goodness sake.

Well, two-way street.

Why don't you be mindful of the people who have to put up with you and post less shit?

Inconsiderate people.

I'm just saying my opinion, what's so shit about that? I say my opinion in the same way others say their opinions, I don't see much difference except for the actual opinions.

And posting nonsense isn't mean in my opinion. Other people's nonsense got nothing much to do with me. Nor anyone else.

Well then just ban the spammers

Hmm. I don't know about that.

I HATE YOU ALL!
*Runs off and cries.*

Vis. Maybe you should spam elsewhere? I recommend you do that since it seems some people are getting frustrated. Write diaries about your real life rather than here or something.

I don't hate you.

No, I don't post my every stupid thought and action- that's spamming and that's what you and Kelchables do almost all day long in SUOPC

And the rest of you shouldn't be enabling her.

What about gamers?
What about people that build heaps of model thingys and stuff?
Do they need therapy too?

What I want to do with my time is up to me.

Star Fish: Ok I see where you are coming from, but can we somehow have both or something?
And isn't this thread saying no more post counts all together?

But it is not affecting my life in any way, so why do I need to change it?
