Plants produce both CO₂ and oxygen.

Really? Last time i was in class the official equation was

Carbon Dioxide and Water (+sunlight and chlorophyll) = Glucose and Oxygen. So they don't produce CO2; they use it.

Yes, the equation is correct, but you see, at night there is no sunlight. So they can't photosythesise at night.

So why do they produce it?

There is the Calvin cycle which is light-independant, and uses the products of photosynthesis, that are produced during the daytime hours. However, all the time aerobic cellular respiration is taking place, which uses O₂ and releases CO₂. So at night, with no O₂ being produced, we get a higher level of O₂.

Yeah, I thought there was something wrong about the reasoning for a few seconds.

In any event, Prince Charles is right.  Talking to your plants helps them grow, because you are breathing out what they breathe in.

Except, you don't have to talk to them, Prince C.  You only have to breathe on them.

Well yes, Adi.  Sometimes I threaten my plants: "If you don't straighten up and grow right, you're out of here!"  That works.

So what happened with the rose?

The rose is a special case.  It died while I was away in Tasmania at New Year.  It was a gift from a special friend, an olympic yellow rose.  I'm so glad it's alive.  If I had cut it down when it died, I would not still have it.  Sometimes, just sometimes, laziness works.
