Global Warming officially ends
« on: April 04, 2008, 10:56:19 PM »

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/science/nature/7329799.stm

In an unexpected development (at least for the dramatists), global warming has ceased with the advent of the latest La Nina weather cycle. How will 'the end is nigh' brigade recover from this? Will they have to wait until El Nino kicks back in and we all warm up again - about 5 or 6 years from now?

I suspect there will be a concerted effort to have Global Warming reinstated, especially by areas of science that are funded specifically to study global warming. Will Al Gore miss out on a Nobel Prize? As for the rest of us, should we buy a new coat, or bravely convince ourselves that a T-shirt will suffice, and continue to stock up on sun screen?

But Bix, the article (did you read all of it?) is very clear on the fact that La Nina is temporary.

Me, I'm extremely glad I live inland.

Mez, did you not read the article ...or do any research? Both La Nina and Il Nino are temporary - or as as normal people say, cyclic.

  I read the fucking article, Bix, and I quote:

"When you look at climate change you should not look at any particular year," he said. "You should look at trends over a pretty long period and the trend of temperature globally is still very much indicative of warming."

"Mr Scaife told the BBC: "What's happened now is that La Nina has come along and depressed temperatures slightly but these changes are very small compared to the long-term climate change signal, and in a few years time we are confident that the current record temperature of 1998 will be beaten when the La Nina has ended."

Really Bix, do I look like that much of an idiot?  Well, apart from the hair?

One assumes this is a rhetorical question and not open for answer.

One question I would like explained given that Global Warming is such a man driven carbon dioxide driven event:

What produced the carbon dioxide to end the last Ice Age?

Should I be believing all those fantasy fiction books about amazing human technologies of the ancients that somehow disappeared?

Should I assume these amazing magical feats relied upon the production of CO2 and that is what ended it all?

Enquiring minds want to know....

I love that quote you quoted..."we are confident that the current record temperature of 1998 will be beaten when the La Nina has ended"      Do you think this guy gets a few government handouts to study 'global warming'? Hmmm....?

Plants.
And all this time we thought plants were converting CO2 to oxygen!  :-o That's it. I'm going home to chop down all my trees.

Indeed, something which has happened naturally can in no way be created, or even affected by human action.

I mean, all those people complaining about the species that we've wiped out never stop to think about all the natural extinctions that have happened before humans existed.

Not to mention, we will be extinct one day ourselves (humans that is).

Plants produce both CO2 and oxygen. They only use carbon dioxide during photosythesis and they can only do that during the day. However the carbon dioxide taken in during the day is more than the carbon dioxide released at night.
