Most of them are regional Catholic schools and the like anyway and are structured simarly to the public system.

Public schools get more State Govt cash, Private schools get more Federal money.

In total Privates get less government cash, hence the need for significant fees.

Kelch, Uni admin can be really underwhelming.  Even the simple stuff will get fucked up.  It is frustrating and exactly the same at any uni I've been to.  If you really, really, think you are in the wrong course though, I'd be very surprised if you couldn't apply for another one either at mid year, or next year (don't sweat the year in between, you approach the next course more mature and with MOAR BRAINZ) also find out when the HECS census date is.  You have a get our of jail free card for the first month or so of any course.  If you make your change before then you won't be paying for this one.
