Suharto - Hero or zero?
« on: January 29, 2008, 02:13:09 PM »

There is great debate behind whether the former Indonesian president was either a hero (e.g. he boosted the economy) or a zero (e.g. killed thousands of leftists to maintain his power). What do you think?

Killing thousands of people doesn't make you a zero.

But he's a hero...K-Rudd said so.  An K-Rudd is an honourable man.

It's true. The commies would have invaded Australia if it wasn't for Suharto. It could have easily become a Burma type of place, but it didn't. So what if a few insignificant devil-worshippers dies accidentally?

He improved the Indonesian economy, he threw plenty of money Australia's way, he sold off the oil and gas fields in the "Timor Gap" in return for Australian recognition of Indonesia's annexation of East Timor, and he made himself, his family, and Paul Keating and his mates rich.

He would be great just for all of that but given that he did this whilst violently surpressing the left in his own country, makes him a real hero.

You have got to have a chuckle at the inappropriateness of K-Rudd patting his corpse on the head though.

Not very left and not very Christian really.

How is that not Christian and who said K-Rudd was left?

Two perfectly salient points there Thal, I stand corrected.

Zero. How else would you suggest a hippie answer this question?

Come up with that all by yourself, love? Well, maybe you should work those two braincells a bit harder next time.

I was quoting it? (this is the chaser forums, isn't it?)
And besides, it's true.

Don't worry about bw.  That's someone who is not entirely 'with it'. In fact I believe bw either copied that response, or at the very least likes to repeat it ad nauseum.

Lol. It's nice to know you try to be mean.
You're not naturally mean, right?
