A minor technical point, but important when it comes to law, I thought it was 'covering your arse' and 'watching your back'. You haven't mixed two cliché's have you

A minor technical point that saw a NSW doctor prosecuted last year.  As for the cliches, you are correct.  As you very, very rarely get one on me, I'm forced to tip my hat to you.

There's no arguing with that, and that's why I wasn't arguing it. I was just making a link between the lumping together of all Catholics with the lumping together of all Muslims.
People see a Muslim - they immediately garner suspicion as to the terrorist tendencies of said Muslim. People can be just as quick to jump to conclusions about the ethical stance of Catholics.

Erm...to be a Catholic, don't you have, by definition, to agree with the views of the Pope?

Yes, my bad. It is Notre Dame (the other catholic uni) that teaches medicine. And as they are still catholic, they don't teach it stuff that conflicts with church belief
The reason they lump them all together as a group is because the church teaches that contraception and abortion (amongst many other things) are bad. So, by calling yourself catholic, you lump that upon yourself (despite what you may personally think about the issues)

someone i know applied for medicine at notre dame...he reckons they don't exclude anything.

and the course wouldn't be approved by the medical gurus if it left important stuff out.

Not necessarily, to agree with the views of the Pope you have to, by definition, be an idiot.

Abortion is still in the Crimes Act in Victoria, and many other Australian states.  While it is rarely prosecuted and effectively available on demand, the doctor must also consider covering his/her own back.

I'd forgotten that. Thanks for reminding me!  :-)

Ah, that is intersting. He wouldn't have told you what they do with things that conflict with religious teaching? (not sure if it would even come up really...)

I, for one, do not agree with the views of the Pope.

I consider a Catholic to be a person who identifies themself with the Catholic Church through their beliefs in God and Jesus Christ, and through their participation in mass and belief in the Bible. That's only a very loose definition though...but the point is that you certainly don't have to agree with the views of the Pope. If you want to be a good Catholic, then it's probably more of a big deal, but otherwise I couldn't care less what he says.

Not sure if this has been on here before-
But I was in Brisbane and there was a sticker for Abortion TV on a traffic light.
Not game enough (weak stomach) to check it out.

Very soon now, KRudd will ban blogs for public safety, and the issue will go away.

Seriosuly, though, why not blog about it?  Sure, the usual fucktards are going to whine and threaten to kill you and your family, but there's not much you can do about that.

My feelings about anti-abortionists are nicely illustrated in this quote from thearticle:

"While some have applauded her bravery, others have quoted the bible while some have reportedly threatened violence against her and her family."

   Life is so sacred to the people who blow up abortion clinics.

RU486 in NOT available in Australia - thanks to Tony Abbott in the first place, and the inaction of KRuddy subsequently.

So I guess we can only find out about what it's like via Twitter.

Good on her.  I'm all for education of the ignorant masses.
