How young is too young
« on: January 09, 2008, 10:04:19 AM »

My kids (with my help) bought my husband the DVD's for Christmas, now we all sit and watch it together and have a bit of a chuckle.  Should I stop them?  My daughter was very put out that she couldn't come to the show (her bed time is 7.30)  and she wants to watch over and over the bloke painting with his doodle; hehehe just like her mother.  Who is that doing the painting by the way?

You paint with your doodle?  :-D

As a mother who has taken her kids to Chaser tapings (they are 11, 14 and 16) I have no issue with your younger kids watching the Chaser.

Alot of the jokes will go over their heads and censorship is something I am against (except for excessively bloodthirsty and violent scenes, or porn because of their disrespect of women).

As long as you are with them I don't think there is a problem.  I agree with grooviechickie - most of the jokes will go over their head.  Live shows are a little different because you can not control what they are viewing - that is a choice for you (and any age limits attached to the show!).

When I was younger my parents let me watch Dirty Dancing much to the horror of all the other parents.  When I saw the movie many years later (about 17 years old) it was a whole different storyline!  I just thought they were 'sleeping' - I was shocked that I had not understood most of the movie as a kid.  It didn't damage me.  (apart from the nervous twitch whenever I see a 'randy' scene on tv... hehe)

I was allowed to watch shows like The Vicar of Dibley from a very young age, and I watch it now, and get all these sexual jokes which totally went over my head when I was a little girl...

My 4 year old cousin LOVES the chaser, just like her parents, and I think my 2 year old cousin has seen a bit of the boys as well, and they're none the worse for it :)

Most children won't understand anything but the odd curse word and occasional shot of genitalia, at which they will either giggle like a child (imagine that!), or be embarassed to have seen such a thing whilst in the presence of their parents.

I was cursing when I was in 3rd grade.

Kids are exposed to much worse through friends at school. No big.

If she's old enough to crawl, she's in the right position.

It's only a dick, why should she have hang ups about the human body,Whose doodle is it doing the painting? her brother is currently naked and does not wish to put clothes on!  Yesterday he was wearing nothing but his new school shoes :-D.   And yes the title is a little odd - but I am innocent and pure, you must all be jaded and think only of sex hmph.  Both the kids wander around the place reciting bits of the shows and then chuckling to themselves - that's more disturbing than the title of the thread, don't you agree?  And , I couldn't reset my password so just created a new account, I felt it would be rude not to respond to all your pearls of wisdom.   Now I don't feel so guilty about my lack of parenting ability.  Must go, my children require some sustenance

Tgd, I don't know whose appendage it is I haven't seen that episode. *Runs off to buy DVD cos I'm a pervert*

God almighty. You really are *special* aren't you?

What exactly about the human body disgusts you so? We're all so uptight and stupid about sex and the human body, and now we're a bunch of neurotic idiots because of it.

Oh, I almost forgot:

I dont remember anything like that being shown on the TV. Maybe it was a deleted scene?

Anyway, I've been watching shows that my parents happened to have on at the time since forever. How do you think i got into Buffy, The X-Files and other recent shows such as South Park and Shameless? Actually now that i think of it, my mum preferred that i watch Buffy over Home and Away. Makes sense.
