Okay, that offer of 1000 blowjobs is good to go. I don't think I have ever seriously agreed with you until now.

Crack out the chap stick and the knee pads and smile like a doughnut then GC.

I'm loathe to, but okay....
Very good analysis there Pert.

It's become an Australian Idol race, rather than a ideology based race.

All this talk of ideology.... Surely 'Fuck you Jack, I'm Alright' or 'I Want a Plasma TV on Interest Free' or even 'Wogs Go Home' is an ideological viewpoint as much as socialism, liberatarianism or even naturism?

Maybe we are just not interested in visionaries anymore?

I'd say you've fairly neatly described almost the entire policy platform of both major parties in those two and a bit lines right there Truck. Nice work.

I don't know that no one is interested.... but there isn't really such a thing as a true visionary anymore. I can't think of anyone in politics at the moment who would qualify under that logo.

Well, Bob Brown is sort of a visionary.

It's just that he's fucking useless.  He's got vision though, it just doesn't have much to do with the real world.

Well Latham was visionary, but the Australian public decided that they didn't want a visionary leader, they wanted a Howard clone, which is why we have Rudd 'me-too'ing everything.

No I meant visionary as in not kowtowing to foreign powers, tackling unsustainable industry, encouraging life long learning and exposing the collapse of the fourth estate into the vicious self serving parasites we have today. The Australian public decided they didn't want that, they wanted their politicians have to grossly unfair superannuation entitlements that far exceeded the entitlements of the average employee, they are happy for their sons to be bullet catchers in a war that they paid lip service to opposing. All of the issues that the public proclaim to be upset about now were on the agenda three years ago and they still voted for Howard.

Trucky is spot on. The Australian public doesn't want a leader with vision, they want a politician that gives them a bag of cash and a dozen hookers. They'll happily bitch amongst themselves about being lied to about interest rates, the Iraq war and children overboard and feign concern about WorkChoices and crumbling infrastructure like water, education, public transport and the health system, so long as they can pat their wallets fat with tax cuts and live in their hip inner city townhouse or four bedroom home on a quarter acre block in the suburbs. Which is why when Howard says that we've never had it so good, we should recognise that, shut up and let him get on with job that they elected him to do.

I think the main problem is that Australians as a whole are incredibly conservative, and feel threatened by new experiences or ideas which they don't understand (just look at the recent hysteria over Sudanese refugees). Our aging population is probably compunding the problem, and Howard and Rudd are really just responding to what they know will win them the majority of the votes.
