Also I wasn't aware America had "thousands" of shootings every year.
Then you should read more.
According to the last published US National Centre for Health Statistics (NHCS) the 15 leading causes of death in the US are;
- Heart Disease
- Cancer
- Stroke
- Chronic lower respiratory diseases
- Accidents (unintentional injuries)
- Diabetes
- Alzheimer's
- Influenza and pneumonia
- Kindey disease
- Septicemia
- Suicide (intentional self harm)
- Chronic liver disease and cirrhosis
- Essential (primary) hypertension and hypertensive renal disease (hypertension)
- Parkinson’s disease
- Assault (homicide)
When you search through the causes of death, you'll find that the latest data available (2004 regrettably) shows that 29,569 people died at the end of a firearm in the US.
Feel free to list at least 1000 shootings that occurred in America from the years 2006-2007 so I can learn something. Unless that was a hyperbole, then you should have said 1 million!!!!
Sorry that I couldn't list 1000 shootings for 06/07 but I did find 29,569 people who were shot dead in the US in 2004.
Actually, according to the World Health Organisation the only countries on the planet that aren't in a state of open warfare which had a higher number of violent deaths than the US were Russia, South Africa, The Phillipines, Nigeria, Indonesia, India, Columbia, and China. So they're in pretty good company.
