Interesting Forum Stats
« on: October 28, 2007, 04:29:07 PM »

Did you know that:

Of 8878 forum members, 7103 have never posted?

These consist of:

- 1090 people in 2005
- 4165 people in 2006
- 1849 people in 2007 (as of 28 Oct 2007)

Of the remaining 1775 members:

- 560 members have only posted once (2004-2007)
- 683 members have under 10 posts (not including above)

This leaves 533 members with post count > 10

And of those, only approximately 250 members are active*

*Seen since July 2007 - This includes those inactive noobs that signed up during this time.

What a small community we have here.

Did you know that yesterday was the first day since 23rd April that no new members joined?

I thought there was a new person yesterday.
That yay_julian person?
I remember becuase I wrote them into my story.

That really is alot of people that don't post.
Maybe they should think about deleting the accounts of people that have no posts at all.

Those stats are pretty typical of most forums out there. Why people sign up for forums and never posts continues to astound me. I always manage like 100 then move on, or else stay for longer. I'd certainly make it to 10 anyway. I don't get the point of signing up if you don't post.

This is the only forum I'm on.
Actually I lie, I found out the other day I have been part of the AFI forum for 3 years but have never posted and I never even realised, so I guess the people have just forgotten.
I checked out the AFI one, but it seemed to confusing.  :-(

Yep. She did actually join yesterday (my timezone, at least) but because the default timezone is NZ time, for whatever reason, it counted her as having joined today. It automatically does some timezone adjustment thing which shall forever remain a mystery. Daylight saving just makes things worse!

Also, on the forum homepage it says there are 9392 members (when I wrote this) but the member list says 8878.

Perhaps that as well as needing a purge of old posts, we also need an inactive member purge? There's no problem with having current members who choose not to post very often, but having something like 8000 inactive members is surely just taking up space.

Artificially makes the forum look more active than it is, though, which tends to attract more people to join. Of course, most of the sort that are swayed into joining by a mere large number of members tend not to post...and the problem continues.

Maybe the 9392 includes deleted members?
