David Tench being nominated alongside the Chaser is a bit of an insult and doesnt say much for the Australian comedy industry.

Interesting that both have been strongly supported by Andrew Denton.

Anyhoo, surely there were much better comedies on during the year (than Tench, I mean, not the War)? Thank God You're Here took out the Logie, but that isn't scripted and might not be eligible. And Summer Heights High was probably on too late in the year. Ditto Newstopia  (Shaun Micallef is a legend ) So the Aus. comedy industry is actually doing pretty well, just not in time for the AFI awards. That's my theory.

At least they'll be nominated next year for sure, if Tench can they can.

They'll only be nominated next year for whatever show they do next year - they've already been nominated for their 2007 season. Tench just missed out on the 2006s, that's all. But I have every confidence that the guys will do something mind-bogglingly brilliant in 2008

Ah, sorry, my misunderstanding  :-) I really should read my own posts! I agree, SHH & Newstopia should be certainties for next year. But I'm still looking forward to the Chaser's mind-bogglingly brilliant show in '08  :-D

I read that in the paper- rather interesting that Wilfred won- I also thought S&S would have taken the award.

No. The broadcast part of the ceremony tonight is mainly the film awards. The ABC is boycotting both ceremonies anyway, something to do with most of their categories being shoved into yesterday's low profile ceremony.

What about the Librarians? It wasnt that bad (Right?).

Yeah Wifred was quite shit and undeserving, but the AFI tends to favor the small scale and less mainstream (ie shit) programs.

Sorry, I posted that after midday and I hadn't heard any trace of the results, I had to go and find them myself on the net. Perhaps I wrongly assumed that a few other people mightn't have heard either
