I don't see anything wrong with that position and in fact I support it.

Interesting that you bring the Holocaust, because it parallels quite well with the Stolen Generation.

Apparently only Jews were killed in the Holocaust, just like it was only Aboriginal children that were taken away with the whole Stolen Generation thing.

Well, yes, but I was worried I'd confuse people if I added all the various groups prosecuted...more Slavs and communists than Jews were killed, but nobody cares about them.


So...you support an apology to the people affected by the Holocaust?  By the people of Australia, today?  Exactly how is it my fault what happened some 40 years before my birth?

You're misreading me. I refuse to held responsible for the actions of others and don't expect that anyone else should be held accountable for something that happened before they were born. I also believe that reconciliation is matter of personal choice for Aboriginals.

Hell no. But the Nazis did do good things for the car industry and the economy, but they were ruthless, greedy men who mostly were not in touch with the people.

Oh but they were in touch with the people.  Victimising minority groups is always popular.

I'm not overly surprised that a reasonably high proportion of Germans didn't think the Nazi's were all bad.
Firstly all groups of people try to find at least redeeming features about those associated with them.
Secondly the Nazis, pre genocide at least, helped to give many Germans a sense of pride after the repression immeadiately following WW1, not to mention the obvious infrastructure improvements.

The two things combined would be enough for many Germans to suggest Adolf and his mates were not all bad.

And on that point the East German middle class who suffered under Communism more than they suffered under pre war fascism probably would say that.

Being in charge of winning the war against the Third Reich will do that, especially as Hitler was just as genocidal about Slavs and communists as he was about jews.
