Good Films...
« on: October 16, 2007, 06:30:09 PM »

Im not sure if there is a thread for film discussion already, if there is i couldnt find it. Anyway ive found a fair few films through this forum that i wouldnt normally come across in my usual wanderings, and been enlightened on some bloody brill TV programs that again would have remained undiscovered, e.g. the Mightiness of the Boosh (Blue) , Idiocracy (Trucka). Ive only just started to discover the wonderful world of independent/weird film and tv and want MOAR!!1!!!1! So please list what your favourite movies are, and films you found thought provoking.

Also discuss why you like it and what its about etc. Judging by the variety of people on here im hoping for an interesting selection. Ive found it pretty hopeless to ask my mates..

Ill start with my favourite films of all time :
Memento, Donnie Darko, The Matrix (the original), Idiocracy, 21 Grams

Brain fart... Cant think of anything else...

Moulin Rouge! (as many of my friends know, I go on about it enough), Little Miss Sunshine (which conveniently I'm watching now)...

Well, one of my favourite films is A Little Princess, but something tells me you wouldn't like that...

Maybe The Producers (the 1968 version that the musical was based on). It's quite hilarious.

You watched Idiocracy eh?  As I said, I'm not naming it for movie of the year, but it did remind me of certain shenanigans

What did you think of it as Mike Judge's first feature? (as far as I know)  He seems to specialise in silly white trash, but it is a setting he does well.

Little Miss Sunshine is a really awesome movie, it's a roller-coaster really. It's a feel good movie, a comedy, a tragedy.

I would seriously recommend it.

Howl's Moving Castle (and Spirited way, but that's been said. So has Little Miss Sunshine, bitches)

Depending on your mental age, The Nightmare Before Christmas - as my brother doesn't enjoy as much now that he's got a proper job. so it's one for the very young at heart I suppose. Ho huuuuummmmm... Once Upon A Time In Mexico, Akira, Garden State (also has the best soundtrack), annnnd I'm brain dead. Oh History Boys was awesome. and the my little pony movie.... that I haven't seen for years but thought I should add anyway.

Orgazmo
Bad Boy Bubby
Schlock
Wag the Dog

Old faithfuls: Blues Brothers, Rocky Horror, Xanadu, Breakfast at Tiffany's, Funny Face

I watched a bad 80s film the other day by accident called "The Barbarians". Highly recommended it if you're into bad, trashy shit with kitsch value.

I've also heard Taxidermia is good (it involves a dude shooting fire from his penis, so it MUST be good). Was supposed to watch it last weekend but my mate downloaded a copy without subtitles :(
