SG, you seem to think that if the US don't supply equipment, the Irans won't have a chance. You seem to forget that the Irans, particularly with Russian support, are quite capable of building their own advanced weaponry.

The difference with the US is their wealth allows for a vast arsenal of advanced weaponry. However, their wealth is on the ebb, their military resources are being stretched, and their populace are losing the stomach for such military actions. Additionally, their war-happy government is on it's way out.

No other western country is interested in any kind of military action without the US.

And when you say "vast arsenal of advanced weaponry" you should bear in mind that though they spend lots of money, not all of it is on anything useful.  The armaments industries making alot of money is often more important than working weaponry.  Then you get utter bullshit ideas like the gay bomb or the Star Wars program or Bush's retarded missile defence system that cost loads of money but fail to do fuck all.

I remember watching a senate hearing into the cost, roadmap and outcomes of a defence missile program where the military were building and testing a missile to intercept enemy missiles either launched in space, or in space en-route. Each test cost around US$100 million, but they were unable to take out their own test missile, even though it was fitted with a beacon to allow them to find and target it.

When asked what the chance of success would be if they were to continue, the General said "no chance - 0%". It was quite a moment  They knew this, yet there they were building the system anyway for their clueless politicians who without doubt insisted on it). In fact, any reasonably intelligent person would soon realise that the task is impossible.
