Every so often there's a rage against someone's avatar, and right now there are a very sexy pair of feline legs that are under the microscope.

Here's your chance to recommend to friend or foe the most appropriate avatar for their "personality type" on the forum. Feel free to give your reasons for your choice.

I'll kick it off by nominating a Lady Godiva on horseback pic for GC (GroovieChickie)

Don't know much about her except she's a mountain (sic) girl who's been and is out there and doesn't step back from taking a stand on issues close to her heart.

Also I get really confused when people have avatars of the opposite sex

Quite a few people have/had perfect avatars, I reckon.

I reckon Fred's bum-horn avatar is perfect for him.

And Truck's watermelon kitty suited her to the ground.

Yak should go back to devil Zemanek.

And Perti's Hitler is rather fitting.

Ahhh, Watermelon kitty.  You remembered.

I'm trying to grow into cruel-wizard-overlord kitty too.

Its not Hitler, its Joseph Goebbels.

I thought Machiavelli was perhaps more appropriate.

Ha! Lady Godiva  :-P She's even a redhead in this pic!

If only I had that bod.

Now, Diddly's turn. I volunteer Krusty the Clown because both you and he are insane, and you both make me smile.

No, not in heat right now... but I suppose it made me notice that The Pertinax Had Spoken And I Had Better Pay Attention.   :-D

Maybe I should have put "what a hornbag" in sarcasm teal.

I thought Machiavelli was perhaps more appropriate.

it would have been if you hadn't always quoted him out of context.

your line of 'it's better to be feared than loved' would have been dandy if it wasn't followed up in the book by 'endeavour to never be hated'.

i wouldn't recommend my avatar, he is a a money-grubbing sot.

trucka's watermelon cat has been the best avatar i've seen.

i think nate's internet rage video one suited his post-style.

it's hard to suggest ones, though for dunco i'd hazard a kurt vonnegut pic.

My original pic was the bunny of doom.  Behold!

'locks my dear old friend, what's happened to you? I once considered you a reasonably intelligent, thoughtful person for a Western Australian of English origin. Now you're, well, just a contrary, crotchety old cow. Sometimes you come off so grumpy you even make SG look happy.

To enlighten you as to the passage of Machiavelli from which I quote, I reproduce it here for you to read...

CONCERNING CRUELTY AND CLEMENCY, AND WHETHER IT IS BETTER TO BE LOVED THAN FEARED

"Upon this a question arises: whether it be better to be loved than feared or feared than loved? It may be answered that one should wish to be both, but, because it is difficult to unite them in one person, is much safer to be feared than loved, when, of the two, either must be dispensed with.

Because this is to be asserted in general of men, that they are ungrateful, fickle, false, cowardly, covetous, and as long as you succeed they are yours entirely; they will offer you their blood, property, life and children, as is said above, when the need is far distant; but when it approaches they turn against you. And that prince who, relying entirely on their promises, has neglected other precautions, is ruined; because friendships that are obtained by payments, and not by greatness or nobility of mind, may indeed be earned, but they are not secured, and in time of need cannot be relied upon; and men have less scruple in offending one who is beloved than one who is feared, for love is preserved by the link of obligation which, owing to the baseness of men, is broken at every opportunity for their advantage; but fear preserves you by a dread of punishment which never fails.

Nevertheless a prince ought to inspire fear in such a way that, if he does not win love, he avoids hatred; because he can endure very well being feared whilst he is not hated, which will always be as long as he abstains from the property of his citizens and subjects and from their women. But when it is necessary for him to proceed against the life of someone, he must do it on proper justification and for manifest cause, but above all things he must keep his hands off the property of others, because men more quickly forget the death of their father than the loss of their patrimony. Besides, pretexts for taking away the property are never wanting; for he who has once begun to live by robbery will always find pretexts for seizing what belongs to others; but reasons for taking life, on the contrary, are more difficult to find and sooner lapse. But when a prince is with his army, and has under control a multitude of soldiers, then it is quite necessary for him to disregard the reputation of cruelty, for without it he would never hold his army united or disposed to its duties."

He clearly states that it is better to be feared than loved if forced to choose between the two.  I agree that he then goes on to say that one needs to avoid being hated. But feared and hated are different things and frankly I don't see how I've misquoted him.

Cheer up old chook. Life's not that bad surely.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

Staggered home after the grand final last night to Mrs DS telling me about some grossly overweight woman on the teev ("my 70" (each) thighs were too big to allow any penis to get within cooee of penetration"). Her husband loved her to death, I suspect literally, and wanted her even bigger.

Back on topic: good call on Krusty :-D

Yeah, last time I checked, Hitler wasn't that good looking.
