Ignore Function
« on: September 17, 2007, 05:16:55 AM »

Considering how all we ever do around here is disregard each other anyways, why not take it the whole way and perhaps put an ignore modification in? Eh?

I'm willing to bet that there would be a lot less whining and angsting around here if we were all just able to set each other to ignore.

It's been made quite apparent already that nobody wants to hear from me, and I've got a list of people growing by the day who I'd like to boycott myself.

Ignorance is bliss afterall! Howboutit? =D

Note: Only half kidding, I do think it's a good idea.

I disagree (I'm aiming to be on your list  :-D). We can't ignore people in real life, and even though this is the InternetsTM, there are more than enough young'uns on here who still need to learn this vital lesson.

Also, what happens when someone else quotes the person you're ignoring? You see the post anyway. Waste of time, I reckon.

i don't like this idea. you're supposed to 'harden the fuck up' not hide under a bed and pretend the boogey men don't exist.

Sorry, princess.  The world isn't made of dewdrops and roses.  Deal.

And anyway - there's already an "ignore" function built into the forum if you don't like it - see that little red cross in the top right-hand corner?  Try clicking it.

I suppose it depends if you are posting because you need the feedback to boost your ego, or are posting for your own pleasure.
I generally post for my own enjoyment and to stop the thought circulating in my head.
(quiet you lot, no I don't have a knife))
If other people enjoy it that is nice, if they don't they can ignore it.

I have my own version, which involves not going near the freaky freaky fan section very often, and increasing the speed of my scrolly mouse finger from time to time.

so far it's been the forum regulars rushing in to defend their right to harass the kids.

not that i disagree.

chromey, if you cut out the shit you get from someone, you also cut out the good.
most people on here swing on the good/shit pendulum.

if you like beige, take nym's advice.

Of course it has. I don't think any of the others would dare try and disagree with you. :D

Do you mean taking his advice to delete my own post?

Anyhow, this wasn't about me as much as it was about other users who I've seen take a real beating.

Meh, that's mild. Some have taken worse - and some of those have stayed, but most have left.

Sorry about that. I could've sworn I'd seen someone else refer to them as a he.

Hm. About the only way I could see some of that getting worse is if it were rephrased enough to lengthen the beating.

It's kind of like a cake, if you can imagine. An unpleasant cake. It doesn't really matter which layer you're on, because it's still the same ingredients.

Yes I know what you mean :) It's not nice and for some reason the veterans feel it is necessary. It toughened me up a bit. This is the InternetsTM, after all, and sometimes we have to remember that and stop taking things so personally. The wimpy ones just have to learn how to fight back.

Just so you know, the suggestion wasn't to delete your own post.  It was to close your browser window and leave the forum for awhile if you're getting sensitive.  Worked for me.  :)

Sure people can be mean in here.  But hell - these people are mean anyway.  If it helps you to understand me better, I'm a right bitch in real life too, who's predisposed to setting stupid people on fire.

I'm not mean.....  I have to bring you down here because I was unable to manage to stick my finger up at the fat retarded bitch who pretended to sneeze right over my coffee yesterday.

Urge to kill...... rising..........

GC: I catch your drift. If this were the first forum I'd signed up to in my life, it would both be devastating and a learning experience, but it wasn't, and it's not. Every once in a while I feel like it goes too far though.

Ah, that's definitely the best advice in a given situation, but honestly it would've been pretty funny if you'd meant otherwise.

I'd like an ignore function that blocks posts of kiddies under say..18.
