Best way to combat a 4500% increase inflation in one of the world's  worst health systems currently running. With food and running out as well you may as well go around using monopoly money...

ZIMBABWE's central bank unveiled a new 200,000-dollar note yesterday, double the face value of what had been the highest denomination note in a country where bundles of notes are needed for the simplest transactions.

:-o Bloody hell. Inflation is at least 4500%. I didn't think that was even possible.

When Mugabe was busy bulldozing people's homes, surely that was ample warning that he would stuff the country up. Someone should have intervened, but who? And how?

It's very simple. Tell George and Dick that Zimbabwe is sitting on truck-loads of oil.

I'm getting images of back in Germany where they carried around washing baskets full of notes... there was one anecdote about the man who carried a washing basket full of notes to buy a loaf of bread... he was mugged in the street and the washing basket was stolen but the money was left...

But I don't think that was 4500%... this is ridiculous! Do they have any plans to combat it? Contractionary policy? Or are they just going to keep upping the denominations of their notes until they run out of numbers?

Yeah, I remember that. 2000000 marks got you a loaf of bread, where it could buy you a house before the inflation.

You remember it?

That is impressive.  Did you remember to take your pills this morning and put some knickers on?

deary me.

how do you insult someone when they have no idea you're having a dig at all?

keridwen i think 4500% may make it a little late for 'cautionary policy'.
only a change in government, currency and luck (in that order) will help.
the likelihood of this?
slim to none.

Hah, they're fucked. Maybe they should start a war. That tends to help. If you can win, anyway.

I was told the same story in History a couple of years ago, but with 'washing basket' substituted for 'wheel barrow'.

+1 for wheelbarrow. I'm a history major, so my opinion is more valid >_>.
