Sheik Al Hilali Steps Down
« on: June 10, 2007, 04:23:37 PM »

Quote
"Outspoken Muslim leader Sheik Taj Aldin Alhilali has stood down as Australia's Mufti.

The controversial Islamic cleric was reappointed Mufti at a meeting of Muslim leaders in Melbourne on Sunday, but declined to accept the position.

The Council of Islamic Jurisprudence and Research instead elected Sheik Fehmi Naji El-Imam, who will serve a two-year term."

He'll always be Australia's favourite Mufti. The Don Bradman of Isamic law. He adds a quality to the game not unlike a bearded Ian Botham or Shane Warne. A quality innings that.

Why, what did he do?

hm, they went with Sheik Fehmi, who's at least guaranteed to not incite public outcry with outspoken comments, on account of the fact that he's about 100 years old.
