I have a theory that per capita, blonde people are the ugliest, even though there are plenty of attractive blondes.
That may be because so many people dye their hair blonde, or go blonde in the sun. Or it may be that the desirable paradigm is becoming darker in skin tone and eye colour. A lot of people use fake tans to conform to the stereotype; a lot more get skin cancer pursuing the look.
But I was reading the earlier pages - never saw this thread before - and I think maybe the point was
sentience rather than consciousness. I can see my dog thinking: that's consciousness, animals are conscious of what's going on around them, and you can be
unconscious (knocked out), but if you're not conscious of the
fact that you're conscious, you're not
sentient.
That's what I think, anyway. I can remember the start of sentience in myself. I was about seven or eight maybe? At least, that's when I started thinking about thinking.
We are the universe looking at itself.
