I have banned Yak's account for a few weeks for, in short, being incredibly goddamn irritating, and ignoring warnings.

Which probably won't stop her logging in some other way, but the point is this - whatever people may think of the individuals concerned, it is absolutely not on to make sexual slurs about other members of the forum.

I don't have a problem with a bit of teasing, but this clearly crossed the line into deliberately hurtful, and repeatedly so.

The problem with banning Yak, of course, is that she'll only enjoy the attention more. So it's largely a symbolic gesture.

Oh, and for those who've impolitely asked who Richy is, he's one of the major news writers for the website, and has worked closely with us for many years. I'll delete the entire forum before deleting Richy, Impertinax...

Thanks for the vote of confidence. You're right that I'm an absentee moderator. Dom and I only intervene when things become a constant nuisance to us, and get in the way of us doing other work. The number of people who are been banned or disciplined here is absolutely tiny, and we want to keep it that way.

But we found out the hard way that a completely unmoderated forum just becomes unpleasant for the people on it, and a waste of our time. I'm an advocate of freedom of expression. All we're doing (in extremely rare cases) is asking that people exercise their freedom of speech elsewhere.
