Dear Chaser Moderators,

I am writing to express my dismay at the threat to delete ‘yak’s account.  It is, to the best of my knowledge, the most disproportionate response to an alleged offense committed on these boards in Chaser Forum history.

I joined this forum because I believe in freedom of expression. I believe that we have the right to say, and draw attention to, those things which are obvious to us all but are not said for fear of the consequences. The Chaser ‘philosophy’ is to use humour to shed light on culturally and politically sensitive matters which are deserving of ridicule and exposure. 

The offense is alleged to have been committed when yak “harassed” a former member of this forum, whose account has not been active for some months, and who herself engaged in all manner of sexually inappropriate, offensive, misleading, abusive and petty behaviour.  I know this because I was party to some, and the target of other, of the more notable examples.

If a long standing and well regarded member such as yak is to be deleted for a slight, which the vast majority of Chaser Forum users would not even register as such, then who is next and for what other ill defined and spurious reason? 

Furthermore, if, as alleged, yak has done anything to offend our, apparently unhinged, former colleague, then I call on the person who reported yak to come forward and attempt to explain the pure vindictive bloody mindedness of their actions. I will, for the sake of self preservation, not hold my breath in anticipation of the “brave” soul coming forward.

Richy’s threat could only be described as a clear breach of the spirit of this forum and any person with so little grasp on the derisive yet humourous nature of this place doesn’t deserve to police it.  Should it be carried out, then I, for one, would call for his right to act as a moderator to be removed.

Having your account deleted must be the ultimate sanction. I am not saying that yak can't be offensive, most of us have had a good stab at that in the past, especially me, however in this instance I believe the threatened punishment to be manifestly excessive.

As an aside, dear forum colleagues, the allegedly offended, allegedly former forum member, was on MSN to have a crack at me for posting this thread, within a minute of it being up.

I was accused of all manner of unflattering things chief of which was cowardice.

And so I pose this question? Is it I, who in the plain light of day and in full view of the forum, makes my point of view public who is the coward?  Or is it the "former" forum member who lurks in the dark and refuses to debate the issue in public that lacks a sense of fortitude?
