Fantastic sponsorship deal with Lexus, McGuire
« on: May 15, 2007, 06:02:10 PM »

So what's the story with the Lexus sponsorship... Did Eddie organise a little deal for the Chaser boys?

(Referring to the front page banner which I hadn't noticed recently)

In all seriousness, the site must be getting some serious traffic now and that in itself would probably be appealing to the big guys...

Still in the interests of Chaser impartiality I would like them to get a fleet of Lexuses and do doughnuts outside Eddie's house at 2am*.

*does not need to be 2am

The joy of FF & Adblock mean there is no advertising on this site (at least, for me).

It's just a banner which I only saw because I went to the home page... I wouldn't normally notice it and I'm not bothered by it* in any case.

*well obviously at some level I bothered to post about it

If you hadn't posted something, someone else would have, because it really does smack you in the face!

And not in the "wow I'm going to buy that Chaser-endorsed lexus" but in the "what the hell - ADVERTISEMENT?" sort of way.

Maybe the site is hosted by something? A company that generates random ads? Because I've seen ads for movies etc there before.

Although you'd think a site like this would be paid for and thus not needing of adverts. *shrug*

Nah, if I remember rightly dom's attitude is 'you get this site for free, so put up with the ads'. Running a site like this which gets as many hits as it does is not a cheap exercise.

Brings me to a related point. Given all the publicity that the chasers have been getting recently, how many 'high profile' people do you think visit this site? Pollies, journos, etc. Could people of importance have lurked on this forum? Could our idiotic antics have been seen by the prime minister? (or more realistically, one of his staff)

Agree and I have no issue with it. Lexus was the first one I saw that really jumped out at me as 'major corporate'.

Heaps. Hi Johnny! Sorry but I am going to vote for Maxine. Just for laughs, you know how it is.

And rightly so!

The PM is far too busy opening orchestras at the ABC to be looking at this site.

Heh - but you do have a point. What would be the payoff, though? And why are journos now considered 'high profile'?

Well, you never know. They might be doing a puff piece on the chaser and googling will lead you here. Journos are high profile in the sense that lots of people could end up hearing about what they have to say.

Let's hope Chris Simmons hasn't visited. I fear he may tear me a new asshole with his hard hitting journalism. :|
