What the hell is this - lets make the new member feel like shit day is it?

Jessi - ignore them. Not that I, with my meagre post level (post level is all that matters here apparently ) have the authority to say so. Most of all, don't let them intimidate you into not posting or censoring your posts to suit them. You, and everyone here has exactly the same right to post as those who post the most. (Strangely rhyming.)

Welcome to the forum (again, balancing out the intimidation) and I really sincerely hope that you have a great time here! Because thats the whole point, for all of you who forget.

Over and out.

K, if it wasn't for your big googly eyes that say "one of us is supremely intelligent: can you guess which of us it is?", I'd totally hate you right now.

Why should we be nice to newbies if we're not nice to each other? I firmly believe in equality, except of course where gender, race and religion are concerned.

Ha. Well it shouldn't be 'us being nice'. If you guys feel the need to put people down, do it to each other. Not to people who can't really defend themselves. Although, thats the whole reason you do it. People who can't intimidate or have any power in real life are exactly the sorts who come to these forums and hide behind their post counts and alter egos and abuse the new members who are just coming to discuss something with a bunch of likeminded people. Well that speaks for itself.

Yes, our high post counts give us the ability to defend ourselves better.  :?

I have a different theory. You suck.

you want us to be abusive? this is our way of welcoming the n00bs, there's always someone taking the piss out of someone else, with a third party saying "oh don't mind _________________ they're alright really. welcome to the forums." (where are yak's bingo cards?) it's like their first lesson. don't take things too seriously, but don't be afraid to defend yourself either. everything you say here can and will be used against you at some point.

Not your high post counts, King Johnny, thats not the issue here at all. The issue is that new members don't know what's going on - they don't know the dynamic of the forum and you lot are scaring most of them off with your intimidation. Even me, who is a pretty strong person, was inclined not to come back when I had posted a few times here. Then I woke up. The purpose of a forum is to get the opinions of many and varied people. What they look like doesn't matter, how old they are, their gender, anything doesn't matter. What matters is variety. And if you scare away all the new people, then you won't get that variety and we'll find ourselves recycling the same old conversations with nothing new to add or talk about.

And without your kind explanation, Erubadhriel, how will the newbies know this? I didn't. Most of them don't. Most of them just walk away from the forum feeling like shit. Way to welcome them. Yet everyone still defends it. Fantastic.

Broaden your horizons, people. Be nice to the new people. That's all we're asking here.
