"He (Santoro)has been a very hard worker for the party so it is sad that his career should come to this, but there again he hasn't adhered to the rules so that is how it goes."

Howard cares only about plausible denial. Santoro thought (and why not?) that all would be forgotten in a week or two. Downer thinks there is no moral connection between Santoro's layers of reprehensible behaviour and his resignation: it was all just an accident (putting aside that Santoro is the ONLY ONE for whom 'that's how it's gone').

After 11 years of getting away with whatever they want thanks to an ignorant public and a fawning media, these clowns are not only oblivious to ethics, they don't mind advertising it. I wonder if they're still wondering why the dirt didn't stick to Rudd?

Downers comments are one of the wittiest and funniest things I have read - especially from Downer - in years. Is he auditioning for a spot on The Chaser?

That is significantly different from not getting it.  They get it all right.

Well, whenever a scandal cropped up, the ALP tended to be far too fucking useless to do anything with it...maybe that thought if someone was really trying, they could get it to work.  that said, they fucked it up rather badly...they should have sat on it till jsut before the next election and so on.

I am amazed that some of these people are so stupid that they actually make it into public office. If you are going to conduct a smear campaign, you do it properly. I guess the problem is that half of these Labor insiders are half-wits, with limited education, no real life experience and their sex education was getting a blow job from their sister.
