JHo’s anniversary is way too disturbing for me because he’s been there way too long which has meant that he’s done way too much damage to our country.
Politicians, including the PM, are just one part of the puzzle that’s called a country, so the damage from JHo’s tenure isn’t irrecoverable.
JHo is a disaster because:
He’s a stubborn, hypocritical liar, which is the worst kind of liar: His code of ministerial conduct was thrown out the door before the ink was dry on the paper. He bashed Keating about the low standard of parliamentary behaviour but has brought the parliament to a new low. He took us into an illegal and immoral war based on a pack of lies. He persists with this futile conflict. AWB. Children overboard, etc. Unemployment: he changed the definition. Interest rates: Mainly out of his control and created by the reforms of the previous govt and the current resources boom.
He rules by fear: The so-called terrorist threat, the subtle denigrating of minorities, especially Muslims, David Hicks.
He rules for big business alone despite his rhetoric: Tax cuts have favoured the rich; the proliferation of indirect taxes hurts the poor.
He doesn’t have a social bone in his body, hence the “were doing so well because the economy is in great shape” mantra which hopefully will soon wear thin.
He has no vision; hence we are way behind in areas such as the environment and research.
I don’t expect our PM to get it right all the time but I do expect basic honesty, direction and fairness. JHo doesn’t have a clue about any of these qualities.
The sad part is that during the past 11 years Labor hasn’t offered much of an alternative. Now that they do perhaps we’ll see a more even contest with a bit more positive future direction than we’ve come to expect lately.
